Installation is flexible with multiple mounting options. Use included screws, template and loops to fix it to any wall, ceiling or pole. Two-way audio lets you communicate with visitors or delivery drivers, and customisable sound alarms add deterrence. Choose storage by recording 24 hours a day with a micro SD card up to 512GB (sold separately) or cloud storage. It works with Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control, and the app supports iOS and Android. Physical privacy mode controls when the camera is active. Great features at a great price
Very easy to install, found connecting to the app slightly challenging, but that may have just been me. Controlling settings through the app is very easy. It tracks brilliantly day and night (although night time recordings so far have been mainly of spiders...) The light and alarm would definitely make intruders think twice. Notifications come through to the app promptly. The microSD card we're using has room for 72 hours of recordings. One small criticism: viewing, downloading and deleting recordings in the app is very easy but to delete them from the microSD card you have to reformat it (not difficult.)

The recording retention time on a Tapo C500 depends on the storage method and recording settings. Recordings are stored locally on the microSD card (up to 512GB supported). When the card becomes full, the camera will automatically overwrite the oldest recordings with new footage (loop recording).
The actual retention period varies based on the SD card size, recording mode (24/7 continuous recording or motion-triggered recording), video quality, and how much activity the camera detects.

For camera live view, once the camera is set up in the Tapo app and connected to the internet, you can watch it for free (no extra cost).
For camera playback, there are two recording types:
1. Tapo Care Cloud Recordings: Includes a 30-day free trial with 30-day (Basic/Premium/Cloud plan) or 180-day (Cloud Advanced/Cloud Advanced AI plan) cloud storage and advanced features. After the free trial, a subscription is required for cloud recordings.
Note: Cloud/Cloud Advanced/Advanced AI plans are being gradually rolled out and may vary by region or account. Please refer to your app for the available plan.
2. SD Card/Hub Storage Local Recordings: Requires a microSD card or Tapo Hub to access continuous or motion-triggered recordings (based on your recording schedule).
Note: Continuous Recording is only supported on non-battery/solar-powered models.
