Brilliant idea - no mess!
These may not be the most attractive salt mills on the market - but they are certainly the most practical. Due to the fact that you turn the mill over to get the grindings out from the top means that there is no mess on the table or counter. The fact that, unlike traditional grinders, you have to invert them to use them does take a bit of getting used to - but the benefits of the quality & practicality of the item soon makes up for that. The ceramic grinding mechanism is a great idea - although it doesn't make much difference for the pepper mill, it does mean that the salt mill is much more hard-wearing than the plastic that is normally used because salt would corrode the metal. It also means that they are interchangeable - the only real difference between salt & pepper is the colour of the disc on the top (white for salt and black for pepper). Oh - and they're easy to fill as well!

Bought to replace a very old grinder, I'm so pleased with this one! The gradations are excellent, it comes pre-filled & is very easy to refill. The action is smooth & easy.

The OXO Softworks Acrylic Salt Grinder is designed to work best with dry, coarse salts. Since Celtic sea salt is moist and grey, it might not be ideal for this grinder. Moist salts can clog the grinder and affect its performance.
