I bought this and had to then make the return journey back to store, following opening the package at home, to discover that the lettering was formed in a way that read more as “momy Xmos”.

You do not have to use the timer option. You can just turn it on and off. But by pressing the button on the transformer-plug for a few seconds until it turns green, you set and start the timer function, and the sign will light up and stay on for 6hrs. Then it will turn off automatically after the 6hrs, and will light up again at the same time the next day, and each day after, as long as you do not touch the button again or remove the plug.

“ Please press and hold the button on transformer for few second until the green light up, then timer function is on. When you want to turn off the timer function, press the button for few second until the light off, then timer function will be off. ”

This is likely to come with a TRANSFORMER-PLUG, rather than a separate transformer box set along the cable.
The button will be ON the TRANSFORMER-PLUG.
To set the TIMER option, press the button on the transformer-plug, for a few seconds until it turns green. This STARTS the timer function. The sign will light up and stay on for 6hrs, automatically turn itself off, and come back on again at the SAME TIME each day, as long you do not touch the button or plug again.
