Broke first time using
It broke the first time we used it. The plastic snapped where the cutter attaches to the pole, which isn’t surprising as it’s a lot of weight loading on one plastic pivot

Haven't used it on the hedge yet but it doesn't seem that powerful when operated. The box had previously opened and resealed with masses of sellotape as some of the packaging was missing.

Slightly unbalanced at first
Good hedge cutter, seemed slightly unbalanced at first, but once you get the hang of it, where to hold, it's actually lighter, & easier to use than you initially think. Like EVERY pole hedge trimmer, when using at full length, it'll never be super light, so I wouldn't recommend for older people, or even younger people who aren't used to physical work. But for most other folk, it's a darn good machine, cuts well, & works well.

After purchasing this Hedge Trimmer I was able to trim a tall conifer hedge and part of the top. The hedge belongs to my neighbour and I only trim my side and part of the the top of the wide hedge.

Having looked around a number of Garden centres on a Sunday, to see what stock of Pole Hedge Trimmers they had and how much there were charging. I was very disappointed in the limited options available and also in the price they were charging. Especially when taking into consideration, I would possibly only using it 2 or 3 times per year. I decided to pop into my local Sainsbury in Wolverhampton town of whom had an Argos store within them, just after lunch time on a Sunday afternoon. Within minutes, I had seen the one I wanted (Spear & Jackson 45CM Corded Pole Hedge Trimmer - 550W) within the price bracket I had within my head and purchased it straight away. There was none in stock, of which wasn't a problem, especially when I was able to collect it the very next day.

Powerful sharp hedge trimmer
Bought to trim my Laylandii hedge and it's done a very neat job. It is quite heavy when fully extended, thankfully I don't need to have it at the maximum length.

This is equipped with an aluminium telescopic tube, which extends from 195cm to 265cm for safer long-reach cutting. The telescopic handle prevents you having to over reach, so it's easy to adjust to suit the height of your hedge. A shoulder strap makes it easier for you to hold and control the trimmer.

Having checked the manual I can see it advises to fix the hook of the shoulder strap into the lifting lug
on the handle pole of the appliance.

I found these instructions online and it does work, however, I feel it may be unsafe and I just use the metal clips.... The L shaped metal bar at the end of the long black strap goes through the loop attached to the spring clip that fixes to the pole. The bar at the other end of the orange strap then slides through the slit in the L shaped bar, locking it in place.

The Spear & Jackson 45cm Corded Pole Hedge Trimmer - 550W is capable of cutting through bamboo up to 10mm in diameter. If the bamboo is thicker than 10mm, then it might not be suitable for your needs.
