Water tank
This is the second iron I have bought in the Phillips 5000 series. I was delighted with the first one and, as far as ironing is concerned, this one is also excellent. My slight concern is the water tank. Whilst my previous iron opened forwards, this one has hinges on the right hand side, making it difficult to fill for left handed people such as myself. I inevitably spill water every time. I could understand the change if I could see a valid reason for it, perhaps the manufacturers would care to explain

Disappointed
Bought this a month ago, to be honest, it has not been the appliance I'd imagined. Had a Philips Aquaglide for many years. Yes, we had to descale it occassionally, but it didn't spit, hiss and splutter like this model.

The temp wheel is too easy to knock when you hold iron, heats up very quickly which is good

Not great
Not a good buy. Because it has a ceramic sole plate t produces a lot of static electricity ironing certain materials such as silk which is impossible to iron because of that. The silk clings to the iron. Hopeless

Fred's steam iron
There's a lot of irons to choose from. I took this one because it was not "over-powered". It glides over cottons and synthetics with ease but is too big to iron trouser pockets from the inside that my previous travel iron could do.

It's an iron.
Doesn't drip or leak. Is light . but ironing action needs to be slower as it seems it is not as steamy as others I have used and therefore doesn't flatten the creases as easily. This is more a change of ironing style rather than a serious drawback.

For the Philips DST5030 steam iron, you cannot use steam on all temperature settings.
How it works: Steam function only works on medium to high temperature settings. At low temperatures, steam is disabled.
Why: Steam requires enough heat to turn water into a vapor. If the soleplate isn’t hot enough, the iron may:
- Drip water instead of producing steam
- Damage delicate fabrics
Quick guide:
- Low (synthetic fabrics) No steam
- Medium (silk, wool blends) Light steam
- High (cotton, linen) Full steam
Tip: Always wait until the iron fully heats up before using the steam button or continuous steam.
