I just love this gadget!
This is my first purchase of a smart home product; I just love it because it's more than just a plug you can switch on and off remotely or set a schedule and timer. It also gives information in real time on how much power and electricity your appliance is using, in terms of watts, Kilowatt hours and pounds and pence. It draws a graph with this information, so I have been keeping an eye on what my fridge/freezer has been up to over the past few days, like for example, how its power requirements vary depending on if I am away from home, or if I am at home and opening and closing the doors. I've also been plugging other appliances into it to find out the real energy consumption. You first have to download the Tapo App (I used the QR code on the box, but it's also available on Google Play, if you don't like using QR codes. Setting the plug up with wifi is quite straight forward, and if you have several of these plugs, you can give them different names in the app, and there is a big on off button next to each installed plug in the app to switch it on or off remotely. You can also switch the plug on or off manually, using the button on its left side. The only criticism I have about the app is that it is not completely intuitive how to set up a schedule of on/off times. Say for example you want it to switch on at 6pm and off at 8 pm, you first have to input the on time, and then press the save button before you can input the off time. In the app you can also set a power limit of up to about 3kw, although I would have thought there are not many appliances that use more than this, even a powerful kettle. It also has a countdown timer you can set to make it switch on or off after a period of time, which might be useful if you want to charge something up overnight for a set number of hours but can't be bothered to programme a schedule into it. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi Trish,
For safety reasons, it is not recommended to connect the smart plug to an extension socket. In general, a plug has a smaller maximum load capacity than a power strip. Furthermore, overload devices (for the smart plug) can be easily attached to the power strip without awareness, increasing the risk of product damage.
Thanks for using Q&A.
