These were out of stock for ages but finally available again recently. Assembly was quite easy. Typical flat pack construction with dowels, quarter turn screws on metal pegs, etc. However the small screws for holding the door retaining bars were too flimsy and one broke. I often don’t use supplied screws, preferring to use decent ones and wish I had this time. Gorilla glue to the rescue. Now in place it easily accommodates all the stuff I want it to, games console, Freeview box, and A/V receiver. Wiring for all the surround speakers wasn’t a problem with a nice large opening in the back panel. I wall mounted the TV above it for a little extra viewing height. Good points: it looks really smart, remote controls work through the slatted door, much neater than my previous open shelved unit. Bad points: I’m quite disappointed that only the slats are real wood and the rest veneered chipboard; I don’t think it is oiled at all so will try some furniture wax; it gets hot inside so I will take it apart to make vent holes at the top of the rear panel. Overall I do like it. It’s not perfect but it is much better suited to my requirements than other offerings.
Perfect for what we wanted
This was delivered last month and we are very pleased. Nicely made and looks good. Delivery on time .
Satisfyingly solid piece of furniture. It was straightforward to assemble but you do need to read the instructions and not try to wing it. It has done a good job of tidying up the TV corner but the slatted front means you need a good aim with the remote for the kit inside.
I would advise that the front door of this Habitat Max Small AV Unit is solid oak and the side/back panels are veneered - the Max range has an oiled finish.
We would not recommend that this item be painted as it would void the warranty.
