Dries out thinner slices
Was a bit disappointed with this item. Which? magazine gave it an excellent score, although warned that it was a bit on the slow side. In practice, this turned out to mean that anything other than thick toasting bread dried out too much while the slow toasting was taking place. I wouldn't say that the browning is particularly even, although Which? said that it was. You can only use the right hand slots when the left hand slots are in use - not normally a problem, although if the left hand side ever develops a fault such that the lever will not stay down (say), then the right side would be unusable until rectified. There is only one dial controlling the browning for both slots - less convenient if you have different preferences in the household.

Ridiculously short mains lead
The first thing that I noticed when taking it out of the box was the ludicrously short mains lead. The instructions, quite sensibly, state that it should not be used under a cupboard. Where are sockets mostly fitted in kitchens? As it comes out of the side of the toaster, you can't even pull it outwards when in use - assuming that your worktops are wide enough. The only place it can be used in our kitchen is on an L that sticks out at right angles. Fine, except that, because of the side fitted cable it has to be turned with the controls away from the edge. If the manufacturer is so penny pinching in this respect, it makes you wonder what else has been skimped on. A pity as it does seem to function quite well otherwise.

They are paired but only for putting bread in to toast, the toasting amount controls both sides, so you aren't able to have two toasting levels to accommodate two peoples preference.
