I bought the new model to replace the older style machine. The washing and automatic drying is great and having the dry only button makes it simple to dry the carpets. Cleaning afterwards was always a bit time consuming with the older model, however with the new one it is simple to release the brushes for cleaning rather than having to unscrew and re screw bars etc. it is amazing to see the dirty water from what I thought was a quite clean carpet. Highly recommended.

This vacuum cleaner is a 2-in-1 hoover that wets the carpet and then sucks up the water to help it dry when cleaning. You can use a normal hoover after if you wish though.

Vax Platinum SmartWash Pet-Design Carpet Cleaner
It really does depend on how long you are using the machine for. On checking the manual I can see this has a tank capacity of 0.45L for the solution. It is recommended that the solution tank is filled when fitted on the machine. Unused solution can be left in the tank after use or poured back into the solution bottle.
