Good quality machine for the price
Good quality machine for the price, and worth having spent a bit more for the heavy duty model. Most sewing machines these days are just cheap plastic junk, so this one feels a bit more substantive and like it will last longer. Lots of good stitch options and high speed, although I'll admit it's fairly loud!

A dream to sew with.
Absolutely love this new sewing machine. Super easy to use. A great step up to the domestic sewing machine I was using previously. Looking forward to buy the extra sewing feet so that I can finally get around to using the leather I have at home. Amazing to hear about the amount of layers it can sew through at one time. Incredible to hear about the embroidery foot too. Extremely happy.

Great for light upholstery and general use.
I bought this model for general use and for light upholstery projects. It probably has more features than I might use but it was worth it at the price and renowned quality brand. The enclosed instructions are not comprehensive but there is plenty of help online.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Singer Heavy Duty 4423 Sewing Machine: ''The Singer 4423 will sew the occasional piece of thin leather, providing the correct sewing technique is used. This may involve using a different needle size and type, adjusting the stitch length, adjusting the presser foot pressure, adjusting the tension and using a different foot. The machine may struggle with 8oz.
This model should not be considered for the sole purpose of sewing leather; an industrial or semi-industrial machine would be required.''

As the UK importers and distributors for Singer sewing machines, we would only supply machines with the UK voltage 230/240v.
We are aware that customers have purchased machines with the US voltage from retailers who import machines.
If the customer has bought from Argos then the machine will have the UK spec

After contacting our suppliers they have advised for the Singer Heavy Duty 4423 Sewing Machine.
The needle size is related more to the thread being used. It is the needle type which should be considered alongside the fabric. For denim, we would recommend a topstitch needle. For cotton and satin, a universal needle is recommended. Again, the size will depend on the weight of thread being used.
