Key beauty trends
Trends in make up and hair are currently demanding as much profile as hemlines and handbags – London Fashion Week 2010 saw designers dress models in acid colours, with nods to 80’s rave and 70’s glamour, sporting huge hair and some beauty style statements to match.
For years we’ve plucked to minimise and streamline, but eyebrows are back with a vengeance and the look is bold and brash. Plucking is still in order but the emphasis is on statement. Either at home or in salon, aim for more of a 50’s shape and reach for the dye, powder or pencil to colour.
Make a statement with Eyebrow make up
Lips are matching brows on statements this season; gone with the ethereal sheens of summer and in with strong, rich colours. Take a tip from Joan Harris of Mad Men and opt for classic reds to achieve a full, plump mouth, and coat with a layer of gloss to add some glamour during the winter months.
Create that incredible look with Lipstick and lip gloss
The traditional trend for festive eyes is bold with dark and smokey shadows, but this year there’s competition from all angles, including brows, nails and lips, which means eyes need to take a little bit of a back seat. Stash the opaque blacks and greys for later and splash out on some sheer shadow, which can be swept along the lid to offer shape and shading but also remain subtle.
Less is more Eye make up
There’s all sorts of trends at the manicurists table this season, take your pick from fluro inspired French manicures, through to light sensitive polish – which changes colour when you step outside, and natural tones in camel and greens.

Whilst eyebrows are sporting bold colours, hair is heading back to more natural tones. Bounce and body are essential for the winter season and a must at any festive parties, whether you choose to opt for hair fillers or deceive the eye with extensions and hair pieces. Quiffs are also sporting a bit of a revival this season and are a great option for long or short styles a like, the key being height without disorder.
