Five Great fancy dress ideas for Halloween

Why not get into the spirit of Halloween and either buy one of our pre-made fancy dress costumes or get inventive using bits and pieces lying around the house. Follow our guide to become the spookiest, most impressive goul ever!

1. Ghost

Turning yourself into a ghost is one of the easiest costumes to make.

Items required: Ghost

Instructions:
Cut some eyeholes into the bedsheet, paint your eyes with black face paint for that gaunt look, then cover yourself in the bedsheet.

2. Vampire

Become a convincing blood thirsty vampire with relative ease and be the envy of all your friends.

Items required:

Vampire

Instructions:
Buy or make a black cape along with some false teeth and fangs to give your vampire some bite. Wear some dark or black clothes and paint your face white and slick back your hair. Finish by applying some fake blood around your mouth to make it look like you’re fresh from a feed. Then off you go into the night!

3. Witch

Put your creative hat on and sew yourself a witches hat or make one from some black card. Remember, the idea is to make yourself look as ugly as possible warts and all.

Items required: Witch

Instructions:
Use a sewing machine to make the witches hat, or cut one out from black card. Don a pair of stripy socks, knee high if possible. Paint your face green and apply a wart on your nose. Don’t forget your trusty broom and wig and off you go.

4. Devil

Red is the order of the day. Even the most angelic person can become a red devil with a little creativity.

Items required: Witch

Instructions:
Buy or make your own forked tail with red card, wear a red cape over red clothes and paint your face red to create that devilish look. Complete the look with red devil horns and trident.

5. Zombie

To create that just risen from the dead look, the key to this costume is the make-up.

Items required:
  • White and red paint
  • Clothes and rags

Instructions:
Find some clothes or rags you don’t mind ruining and set about ripping them to create a suitably spooky outfit. Remember you’re supposed to have risen from the dead so use white face paint to achieve that death warmed up look. Complete the zombie effect by painting on a ghastly wound with red paint.

Always remember to supervise children when making costumes, especially when scissors or sewing machines are recommended in the instructions.
