The Nintendo Wii (pronounced "we") was launched in December 2006 and has changed the way many people play video games.
The unique way in which the Nintendo Wii can be controlled makes this console stand apart from others. The controller is designed to be used with either one or two hands. When picked up and pointed at the screen it gives lightening quick interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting which is dictated by movement of the controller itself.
Up to four Nintendo Wii remote controllers can be connected at once using wireless Bluetooth technology. The signal can be detected up to 10 metres from the console giving you plenty of room to swing your arms around and get truly engrossed in the game.
Games such as tennis and baseball are great fun as you literally swing the controller as if it were the racket or bat...remember to make sure you have plenty of room around you before swinging for that ace or home run!
This has made Wii a cool companion for family parties, where kids, parents and grandparents can all get involved in the on-screen action.
The remote is used to control video games by simply moving it around. Ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in your hand, but don't forget to attach the wrist strap...accidentally letting go while swinging the remote can cost more than a few points in your game!
The nunchuck gives you a second control for your other hand. So in video games such as boxing you simply hold one in each hand and move your hands like a boxer would, punching each hand independently. Gaming has never been such a physical and immersive past time!
The Nintendo Wii offers more than the opportunity to play fun, physically interactive games, it is also a media hub. The Wii channel menus are the gateway to a variety of easy-to-use, interactive multimedia, entertainment and communication functions.
• Nintendo Wii Online - connects wirelessly to the internet to bring you news, weather reports and of course game downloads.
• WiiConnect24 - allows the console to communicate with the internet even when the power is off, letting you download games updates while you sleep.
• Internet Channel - surf the web on your TV using the Wii, giving you access to all manner of things including videos from many popular sites.
• Wii points - collect points and purchase classic games from the Wii Shop channel.
• Nintendo Wi-Fi connection - lets you play against other Nintendo Wii users wherever they are.
There are all kinds of accessories to add to your Nintendo Wii, making the fun even more...well, fun!
From laser guns to steering wheels and tennis rackets to golf clubs, you can make your favourite games even more realistic.

Probably the most exciting accessory available for the Nintendo Wii console, the Wii Fit has been designed to be enjoyed by the whole family.
Wii Fit is a fun way to help everyone in the household increase their awareness of how fitness is an important part of everyday life. Wii Fit offers three key features: know your physique, train yourself and check your progress.
The Nintendo Wii Balance Board, which comes with the Nintendo Wii Fit software, has been developed exclusively for the Wii console.
This is a pressure sensitive wireless board that you place on the floor in front of the TV. It senses weight and the shift of balance by the user, allowing control of on-screen movements simply by moving on the board.
Wii Fit allows you to measure and monitor areas of your physique such as BMI (body mass index), centre of gravity and then set your goals. Once you have been given your BMI the Wii Fit can help you set goals to reduce the measurement. Your centre of gravity is measured by the Wii Fit age test, in which you are given various balance tests to keep your Wii Fit age as close to or lower than your real age.
There are four categories of exercise, each with various activities:
• Aerobic exercises - 10 minute exercises that are designed to get the heart pumping.
• Muscle conditioning - controlled motions using arms, legs and other body parts.
• Yoga poses - classic poses that focus on balance and stretching.
• Balance games - fun activities such as ski jumping and heading footballs that challenge the players overall body balance.
Up to eight people can track and monitor their performance using Wii Fit. You can add the Wii Fit channel to your Nintendo Wii menus system allowing you to monitor your BMI, body balance and Wii Fit age without inserting the disc.
