Argos Retail Group highly commended in Employee Benefits Awards | 04 May 05

Argos Retail Group was 'highly commended' and 'runner up' in two separate categories at the prestigious Employee Benefits Awards 2005 ceremony last week, competing against household names like Vodafone, Barclays Bank and the NHS.

The awards were presented by William Hague, the former leader of the conservative party, on Thursday April 28. The glittering ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, in front of industry observers and dignitaries.

The Argos Retail Group were 'highly commended' in the Most effective use of a voluntary benefits plan category which saw them pipped to the post by Hertfordshire County Council. The judges were hugely impressed with the impact of the benefits across the HR function. This was the first time Argos had collaborated with Homebase to negotiate special rates and offers on services for ARG staff and it was a huge success.

They were named 'runner up' in the Most successful new benefits launch category beaten to first place by Vodafone. The benefits package is offered to all employees in the group which totals around 46,000 people and has negotiated deals and discounts for its staff on a broad range of services including holidays, car hire, eye care and driving lessons amongst others.

This is the first time that Argos Retail Group has entered the Employee Benefits Awards and we are pleased with the results.

"We are delighted to have been short listed for both the award categories that we entered, said ARG benefits manager, Vicky West. "Credit goes to the team that worked incredibly hard negotiating deals with providers and the excellent work they carried out at launch and through the year promoting the scheme to our employees."
