Argos announces new commercial structure | 7 January 05
Argos has restructured its commercial function and announced two internal appointments to fill the new positions, completing its management team changes under new Managing Director, Sara Weller.
Steve Knights has been promoted from Trading Director for Toys, Jewellery and Leisure to Commercial Director, Stock and Supply, having joined Argos four years ago.
Carl Hargrave has been promoted from Trading Director for Electricals to Commercial Director, Trading, after two years with the company.
The previous Commercial Director, Maria Thompson, had been covering this role since her appointment to the position of Group Commercial Director for ARG in October 2003, where she is responsible for driving synergies between the ARG businesses of Argos and Homebase.
According to Argos MD Sara Weller: "These appointments complete a series of changes within Argos which have seen the appointment of a new Finance Director, Matt Smith; a new Marketing Director, Karen Bray; a change of IS Director, Pete Connor; and an expansion in the role of the head of Argos Direct Shopping, Robin Wall, to include Argos' e-commerce business alongside the Home Delivery operation.
"I'm delighted to welcome both Steve and Carl to the Argos Executive. These changes will enable us to address effectively the two key areas of supply and product range within the growing Argos business, while releasing Maria to focus full-time on addressing the wider commercial opportunities facing the Argos Retail Group."
