At Argos, all our furniture is really easy to assemble. Just read the instructions, then put it together carefully, making sure you’ve got plenty of space to move around as you work. Get a friend to help you if you can – you’ll find the number of people needed to put each piece together in the product description.
All our furniture is designed to be strong and stable, but check the maximum weight recommendations before you buy, and be realistic about the size and weight of the items you want to store on each piece. This is especially important for TV stands and bookshelves.
Here are a few simple ways to keep your furniture looking great for years to come:
Use glass cleaner or soapy water to get a great shine without any streaks.
Chrome and metal
Use a dry or slightly dampened cloth for dusting, or a sponge and a mild detergent for a deeper clean. Wipe dry chrome or metal furniture with a towel or paper cloth for a spotless finish.
Fabric and leather
Use a slightly damp cloth for cleaning leather and leather effect furniture, together with specialist leather care products to help maintain suppleness and longevity. You should also protect it from excessive heat and keep it out of direct sunlight.
Treat spills on fabrics straight away with a warm damp cloth, or lukewarm water and a mild soap for cotton fabric. Don't saturate the area, rub or scrub hard. Instead, gently wipe in a circular motion then pat the area dry with a soft cloth. Minor staining can be removed with a dry foam cleaner (try it on a hidden area first to make sure it doesn't discolour the fabric), but don't wash or wipe it with detergent or water.
Dust with a soft dry cloth and beware of direct sunlight, which can cause discoloration and ageing. Try to avoid placing wooden furniture near fires and air conditioners – all of these can cause wood to warp.
