For peace of mind, ensure your highchair conforms to British Safety Standard BS5799/BS14988.
For complete safety, your baby should be secured in the highchair at all times with the five-point safety harness, either the one supplied, or an additional one that conforms to British Safety Standard 6684.
If you buy an additional harness it can be secured to the chair with the D-rings. These are usually positioned at the back of the seat or underneath it.
It is recommended that you supervise your baby at all times while they are in the highchair and that you never leave them in the highchair unattended.
Look out for a sturdy, wide base for full stability, and if the highchair has wheels, be sure they lock to prevent the chair moving.
It is recommended that you do not use the highchair on a slippery or raised surface.
Take care when putting your child in or getting them out of the highchair.
When folded, the highchair should be kept out of children's reach.
