Great Amazon Alexa device
Great sound quality, the kids love listening to theirs favourites musics, recording their voices and play with it in general. You can do so much with it.

Hello Leslee, Alexa is built into the Echo. You need to have a wireless internet connection, somewhere to plug in the power, and an Amazon account. Listening to music requires a subscription to a streaming service like Spotify Premium or Amazon Music. Thanks for using Argos Q+A.

The Echo is taller and weighs more than the Dot.
The Echo has a large built in speaker, the Dot has a small speaker.
The Dot has a line-level audio output, so you can hook up external speakers or hook it into a hi-fi system.
The Dot has a volume up and down button on it’s face, the Echo does not! You must use voice commands to change the volume on Echo. To be clear, the voice commands still work with the Dot.
The Echo is more expensive than the Dot, but adding a pair of powered speakers typically tips the cost of the Dot, in total, higher than Echo.
The Echo Dot is essentially the top portion of the regular Echo, without the beefy speaker underneath it. Instead, The Echo Dot is designed to be hooked up to a set of external speakers.
In Summary: if you are primarily going to listen to music, and care about audio quality you may want to go with the Dot + external speakers. If you are not so concerned about audio quality, or don’t want to mess about with extra speakers, go with Echo.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for using Argos Q and A.
