Amazon Smart Plug
My lights now come on or off when I ask Alexa through the smart plug. Excellent

My Amazon Smart Plug works great and looks good.
Easy to set up, just plug it into an electric socket, plug your chosen device into the smart plug and that’s it! Once you’ve set up the name to use it’s ready. I would recommend the Amazon Smart Plug to anyone, it works perfect with your chosen Alexa device.

Yes, that is exactly what the smart plug is designed to do. I noticed you said "switch off" rather than switch on. It will do both of course. I'm no chef but I think this is an excellent use for the smart plug to prevent over-cooking

Hi Happymargy, yes this is possible. Once you have the Smart Plug set up you can turn it on and off through the Alexa app when away from home. Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

If you use an extension lead to run more than one appliance take care that the total power consumption of all of them does not add up to more than (in my opinion) 500W. This is always marked on every appliance. You should be fine with a couple of table lamps and even a TV. But be careful with anything that heats up as there is always a fire risk.

Hello Tommy, I can confirm that this is possible if you wish to have the connected devices turn on at the same time. Thank you for using Argos Q&A.

I would not suggest using with a kettle for 2 reasons. There is a modest fire risk - supposed you forgot to fill the kettle first! Also a kettle is (unless very small) will use more power than the Pug is designed to switch. This may shorten the life of the Plug.

Hi ash,
This Smart Plug can be used to remotely turn on the electricity supply to a Kettle, but you will still need to physically turn on the on switch on the Kettle to get it to boil water.
I hope this helps.

A kettle has an automatic shut off switch when power off and when boiled so this cannot turn on the switch to a kettle. It can only provide the power to it.
