The tart, juicy berries are produced in late July on small spreading bushes, often with a second harvest in September. This acid-loving evergreen shrub is good for small spaces, growing well in containers filled with ericaceous compost, and with its attractive pale pink flowers in spring, it makes a lovely ornamental plant for a courtyard or patio too. The berries, which are similar to cranberries, can also be added to smoothies or eaten raw – just add sugar to taste.
