The ethernet powerline kit works well and has sorted out our problem with wi-fi for our older laptop computer. It would have been good to have a longer cable.
Bought these as my wifi was slow and kept disconnecting. They are basically plug and go. You plug one into socket and router the other into a socket and your laptop. These then send your router signal through your electric cables to laptop so no need to run cables throughout the house. It has made a huge difference to the speed of my broadband and also very rarely disconnects. If you move to a different room just move it with you or add separate powerline plugs to it. They`re brilliant.
The TP-Link AV600 nano is an excellent alternative
If your router is a distance from the PC or your room doesn't have an ethernet socket then this is the device you need. I'm getting excellent speeds on my fibre set -up.
No just ethernet only

You may use up to 8 or 16 nodes (adaptor units)
Only one will be connected to your router via Ethernet, the other can be at an location within 300 meters of electrical cabling on the same side of the same electrical consumer unit
If at the remote location you have more than one Ethernet enabled device you may use a network switch to enable further connectivity at that point (and even add a remote wireless access point) .

I believe you can run off the one adaptor but if you go onto their live help tab on their webpage, they would be able to advise you correctly.

This AV600 Nano Powerline Starter Kit plugs into your electrical circuit and as long as it is on the same circuit as your router does not require hard wiring. The router will run more than one Powerline - it is possible to have 16 on one circuit.
