A brilliant 24-72 equivalent lens
I bought the Eos M3 and this was the 'Kit' lens. To my mind the 24mm to 72mm (equivalent) focal range is much better option than the usual 18-55 kit lenses and better balanced on the tiny M3. I favour the 15mm end but have no optical issues with the lens at all. In fact my only real gripe is the minimum f6.3 aperture at the 45mm setting, very poor but not the end of the world.
Poor filming quality
I bought a canon camera that came with this lens. The lens is very poor for filming videos, the image comes blurry and it’s impossible to record inside the house. Unless the sun is shining, which is quite hard in UK. I bought lights, but still very bad image quality.
Not suitable for landscape photography
My copy of this lens shows obvious decentering and a large portion of one side of the image is very soft at all focal distances. Stopping down the aperture only helps so much but doesn't remove the problem. According to Canon Service, the lens has no defect. Thus, the lens is clearly not suitable for e.g. landscape photography requiring the image to be relatively sharp from edge to edge.
To check compatibility simply remove the lens from your camera by pressing the lens release button and twisting the lens anti-clockwise.
If you see a red circle on the lens mount your camera will accept EF lenses. If you see a white circle it will accept only EF-M lenses.
I hope this is helpful :)

After looking into this the lens is shown as a fitment of EF-M and the camera you have is listed as EF-S and noting the difference, the lens may not be compatible with the EOS 400D camera. Please refer to the user manual of the camera.
