Perfect alternative to the usual DSLR
After retirement, I needed a smaller camera just to shoot holidays & the odd street or landscape. This camera is perfect for both. The facilities are excellent and cover just about all scenes and enhancements. The addition of the grip ( intended for the GX9 I think) makes the handling even better. The only downside of this grip is that , as not intended for this body, it covers the battery & card slot. Not a huge problem though. The kit came with the 12-32 lens and again, I,ve not any problems that are worthy of a negative comment. I would say that with a prime lens (14mm or 20mm) this camera is highly recommended. If Panasonic read this, perhaps a kit with a prime lens and grip would be nice !
I would definitely like to see a sensor docking/lock position when powered down as the sensor clunks around when carried. Which can't be a good thing. I would also like to see the rear control layout standardised as I have several G/GX models and they all have the display button on top right, except the GX80. This makes it confusing when needing to work quickly whilst keeping your eye on the subject.
My second GX80
Sold my first GX80, missed the portability and ease of use so bought my second. Very pleased with it and find it easy to use for travel and street scenes. Just use it with the tiny but impressive 12-32 zoom lens but will get a faster prime lens to supplement the little zoom. All goes for a great walk about camera. One annoying feature, when using the EVF, is that my nose can touch the screen and alter the focus!! Will have to learn to shoot with my right eye to the EVF.
The small print
