Your piece of paradise...

Your piece of paradise...

A summer house (or log cabin) gives you an extra room in your garden for whatever you need – a workspace, reading nook or place to entertain. The options are endless! Whether it’s for practical or decorative purposes, think about what will benefit you and your lifestyle the most.

Still not sure? Let us kick-start your imaginations…

What can I do with a summer house?

    Design a garden office

Need a place to focus? Create a motivational workspace with pinboards, stylish storage and comfy chairs to really make this space work for you. Top tip - try positioning your desk near the door or window, for fresh air and inspiring views.

    Your own rural retreat

It’s important to have your own space for a bit of me time, and it couldn’t be easier to set up a relaxing spot. Start with a squidgy sofa or chair, a coffee table for your cuppa and finally, homely accessories for those finishing touches.

    Extra room for exercise

No more excuses to skip leg day…arm day…your yoga sesh. Bulky gym equipment can be practically stored in your own personal gym. Include hooks for towels or extra kit and sync up your wireless speaker – it’s time to turn it up and get moving.

    All out for alfresco dining

Lazy lunches, bottomless brunches or summer snacking. Host your guests with a unique dining experience. Fit in functional furniture to maximise your space and finish off with gorgeous dinnerware.

    Pack it with personality.

    Pack it with personality

Bring home comforts into your garden and create a space that reflects you. Pick plants, cosy cushions and floor lamps for a chilled out vibe. Or how about your own bar for evening soirees?

    Make it multi-functional.

    Make it multi-functional

No need to compromise when everything's all in one spot. A summer house with a side shed, means you can tuck away any general garden items, whilst still having a space to relax or entertain.

      Don't forget your exterior extras

A summer house is quite the statement. Use it to complement your garden décor with subtle (or not so subtle) accessories...

      Make an entrance.

      Make an entrance

Create a warming welcome with pots, planters, faux floral or bistro outdoor furniture. We love the idea of creating a path with solar lighting - not only will they showcase your outdoor space, they’ll guide you on darker days.

      Pop on some paint.

      Pop on some paint

Lift your whole garden by simply painting your summer house. Blues and greens enhance the natural colours of your outdoor space. Whilst darker greys will encourage nearby flowers to really stand out.

      Keep it safe and secure.

      Keep it safe and secure

Some summer houses will come with a lock and key, whilst others have a simple latch. If you're storing expensive items inside, add additional security such as padlocks or CCTV cameras, and cover any windows with blinds or curtains

      Helpful questions before you buy

      Things to consider...

Do I need planning permission for a summer house?

Generally, no. But if it covers over half the garden, isn't for domestic use or is over 3 metres high with a pent roof, or 4 metres high with an apex roof, it might. Larger summer houses which are within 2m of a boundary and over 2.5m high (8'2") will do. It’s always a good idea to double check with your local planning department.

What size summer house do I need?

There is no set size, just one that fits comfortably in the space and is functional for its use. It’s helpful to have clear access around your summer house, for any future maintenance.

Where should I place my summer house?

This depends on its purpose, but a sheltered spot that’s not too exposed is quite popular. Remember to consider the overhang of the roof when sizing up your space.

How do I maintain my summer house?

It’s recommended to use a wood stain and reapply once a year.
