Don't overlook the impact of good lighting
Tailor lighting to your mood and each space
The way that you light up your areas can make or break a room and is one of the most common mistakes that people make when planning their spaces. The right glow can create the atmosphere you are looking for, whether it is a well-lit kitchen or a cosy corner. It’s important to consider how you want that space to make you feel.
Make a statement with tones and textures
Tackle dark, dull corners with lamps and shades that reflect and expand the light to make the space shine. Make a statement, mixing textures and tones to suit your room. Simple designs and natural materials are key to this season’s neutral trends – wood, concrete, and glass are all perfect to give your home the wow factor.
The essential lamps that every home needs
The perfect floor light or standing lamp
A great way to make lighting work for your room is to use varying heights. Standing lamps allow you to create a focal corner - this one is perfect for the job. They also work brilliantly if you have a large sofa and no space for a side table, or to focus light where it’s needed. Place the lamp behind the seating area for maximum effect.
The LED desk lamp
The glare from a computer screen can cause eye strain so it’s essential to light your desk well, avoiding that common headache from spending time online! LED lighting is long-lasting, efficient and mimics natural sunlight so it’s a great choice for your desk. This one is crucial for encouraging my son to do his homework, always a difficult job!
The space-saving table lamp
The perfect room should have lights of different shapes and sizes to create the ideal ambience. Side tables or shelves can be difficult to light properly due to space constraints so a smaller lamp is a good option. Choose a style that blends well with the surroundings to keep the focal point calm and relaxed, or mix and match for an eclectic look.
The on-trend spot lamp
Ideal for dressing tables or bedsides, the spot lamp is softer than the desk lamp and can focus light exactly where required. Its flexible shape, size and style can work in any room, from a kitchen corner to a shelf, highlighting favourite accessories or books. This one is a soft grey with contrasting natural wood, one of this season’s key trends.
