Decorating outside for Christmas
Follow our handy step-by-step guide to getting your garden set-up for the festive season.
Step 1 - Tidy up your space
With the right tools, you can easily clear away fallen debris, clean-up outdoor furniture and store unused garden bits – anything to make more space for your Christmas lights and decorations.
Step 2 - Plan and prep
Safety is priority, so make sure you plan where you’re placing your decorations – they need to be secure and close to a power source. Use waterproof plugs if needed and ladders for anything up high.
Step 3 - Light it up
From magical fairy lights and icicles, to path finders and snowflake projectors, you can really light-up your home this Christmas. Or use curtain lights in your windows, so you can enjoy them inside and out.
Step 4 - Add some fun
With Christmas being a little different this year, why not go all out with some inflatable festive characters. We’ve got Santa, Rudolf and Frosty, all ready to give your front door a merry welcome home.
Step 5 - The finishing touch
If you prefer a more traditional look, browse our selection of wreaths to hang on your front door, back door…any door really. We love the different colours and patterns, so there’s something for everyone.
Step 6 - Where to store it?
Get ahead of the game and start thinking about Christmas storage. We’ve got all sorts of stylish storage to fit lofts, garages or sheds, as well as simple storage ideas.
Go green-fingered and get into gardening
Grow your interest
Yes, winter may not be the time you want to get out into the garden, but if you develop your interest in it now, think about how great your garden could look in time for summer... And there's loads of benefits that come with this green-fingered hobby - it can help you de-stress, burn calories and may even help improve sleep!
Tidying up your garden
There’s lots we can do to protect our gardens from incoming, colder weather.
Clear your flowerbeds
Use garden hand tools like secateurs, trowels and cultivators to help dig up weeds and deadhead any flowers. You’ll now have room for planting next year’s spring bulbs.
Tidy your lawn
Whilst the weather is still nice, use a lawnmower to give your grass a fresh cut. And neaten the edges with a grass trimmer or edging tool – it’s a simple way to make it look brand new.
Protect wooden structures
Before the bad weather strikes, give your wooden structures (fences, sheds and benches) a coat of wood stain or paint. This’ll give them time to soak it in before the rain arrives.
Invest in a water butt
This is a great way to recycle rain water. Attach the water butt to your guttering and use the water collected to water your plants. Avoid any stale smells by using it regularly.
