Tower pressure cookers

We have been asked by our supplier, Tower, to notify you about a potential safety issue with the below Pressure Cookers, sold by Argos between July 2014 and August 2019.  These products have the required certification from the manufacturer to demonstrate conformity with requirements. However, test results have indicated that use of the items may result in burns from the steam, and/or, unexpected release of liquid from the unit and/or excessive heat in the handle. Safety is Tower’s first priority and they are therefore conducting a recall of all models which may be affected.

If you have one of these Pressure Cookers, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. To help identify if your pressure cooker is an affected model, you can locate the model number stamped on the base of the item. If there is no legible model number on the base of the item, please contact Tower’s customer support line (details below) for assistance.

Whirlpool washing machines

We have been asked by Whirlpool to notify you about a potential safety issue with a number of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines manufactured between October 2014 and February 2018.  The safety issue concerns the door lock system. When the heating element in the washing machine is activated, in very rare cases a component in the door lock system can overheat, which, depending on product features, can pose a risk of fire.

What do I need to do?
If you have purchased a Hotpoint or Indesit washing machine since 2014 please call Whirlpool on 0800 316 1442 (Republic of Ireland 0818 903 281) or visit https://washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.co.uk (or for Republic of Ireland - https://washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.ie) to check if your appliance is affected.

  • Whirlpool have advised that to avoid all risk associated with the use of affected models, you should unplug your washing machines and not use it.
  • They have also said that if, nevertheless, you do choose to use your appliance, you should only use cold water cycles of 20°C or lower as this significantly reduces the risk
  • Whirlpool will be offering affected customers the choice of either a free-of-charge like-for-like replacement washing machine, or a free-of-charge in-home repair of your existing appliance.
  • Due to the volume of appliances impacted by the recall, Whirlpool will be able to begin replacing appliances and deploying engineers for in-home repairs from early January.

What do you need to do?

Bush double oven

It has come to our attention that the installation instructions for the following items were unclear, specifically page 15 of the instruction manual, advising customers how to connect the cable for the oven. If the connector block was wired incorrectly, there is a risk of overheating which in extreme circumstances could lead to a fire. In addition, if the temperature within the oven exceeds the tempered glass limit, there is a risk that the glass could crack.

What do you need to do?
DO NOT USE YOUR OVEN until the installation has been tested by a qualified engineer.

Please call our trusted partner, 0800 Repair, to arrange for an engineer to check the connection of your built-in oven – PH: 0345 257 7271.

While your oven may have been installed by a qualified person, as the instructions were unclear we want to make sure that the connection is checked. In the meantime, even if your oven is working fine, if the cable was connected incorrectly, there is a risk of overheating.
