Kettlebell Weight Programmes
To avoid injury and ensure you have a safe workout, start with some light kettlebell exercises, you can head to your local gym of fitness shop and try out some weights to see which one feels right for you. It's important to make sure you pick the kettlebell weight that matches your current fitness level as picking one that's too light would mean that you're not facing enough resistance and therefore not challenging yourself enough and choosing a kettlebell that's too heavy could result in serious injury and ultimately, pain (and we're not talking about 'feeling the burn' kind of pain, we're talking pulling, straining and even damaging a muscle kind of pain, best to be avoided!). Once you've come up with a full-proof workout routine and find that your strength levels have increased, you can start to elevate your kettlebell weights, work your way up from 8kg kettlebells and 10kg kettlebells then eventually progress on to 12kg kettlebells all the way up to 32kg models.
You should also pay attention to the window on the kettlebell (this is the space between the body and the handle) as well as the thickness or diameter of the handle itself. You might find that larger hands need a bigger window and thicker handle to make gripping and candling comfortable and safe; whereas smaller, slimmer hands will find it more secure if the kettlebell clearance and handle are on the smaller side.
