Where
is my conservatory going to be situated?
Although this may seem to be an obvious question, it is important
to consider the position of your conservatory step by step:-
Measure the area that you want to install the conservatory.
Ideally this should be done in millimetres for accuracy as
all of our dimensions are quoted in this way. There are 25.4mm
to 1 inch.
Remember measure the height as well as the
width and projection, once your conservatory is built you can't
alter the size.
Look for any obstructions that may make the conservatory
difficult to install. For example drainage pipes, guttering,
tops of existing windows, vents for central heating boilers
etc. If there are any obstructions consult a builder before
progressing as there may be cost implications later on.
Which direction will your conservatory face? This is important
as it will affect the amount of direct sunlight you will get
and therefore how much heating or ventilation you will need
particularly if you are going to spend a lot of time in your
new room.
North
North facing conservatories will be cooler as they tend to
get less direct sunlight. Consider what will be needed to heat
the room. (NOTE: If you install a radiator running from your
central heating your conservatory will be subject to building
regulations)
South
South facing conservatories can become hot as they will get
the most direct sunlight. Consider keeping cool in the summer
with additional opening window, blinds or even an air conditioning
unit.
All Argos conservatories are available with
optional additional opening windows. Please remember that additional
opening windows cannot be added after the conservatory has
been built.
East
East facing conservatories benefit from early morning sun,
making them ideal for breakfast rooms. As with North facing
rooms, consider your heating.
West
As with South facing conservatories, West facing rooms can
become hot so consider cooling the room. They are great to
relax in during the evening making the most of the day's sun.
Remember additional opening windows cannot
be added after the conservatory has been built.
