It isn’t very heavy I’m only 5ft and I managed to carry it without any help which isn’t normally the case.

I'd say it depends on weight. I'm 8 stone and have sat on mine without it collapsing!
It does seem very sturdy so I'm confident it'd take more weight than this plus it seems daft to be designed with a seat and then tell you not to sit on it. Probably a case of health and safety gone mad.
My advice would be use one's common sense with regards to the weight put on it.
