Bought as new to the gym the heart rate feature is almost the same as the reading on the gym equipment give or take 2 beats.

Very good as a watch......
.... however not very impressive as a heart monitor. I checked it for three readings at the doctors the watch readings were out by 25% each time.

I did not like the interface and never got an accurate heart rate - since I bought it as a heart rate monitor I am disappointed by this product.

The product has a number of modes which are useful. The watch face is not made of mineral glass and is easily scratched. Also if you wish to check your pulse rate it is very intermittent at reading a pulse rate of 50 and below (resting rate). Works well when pulse rate is above 55.

Smart-looking watch, not for serious fitness fans
I bought this watch to help me train for a 52-mile bikeathon in September; as an intermediate cyclist, I wanted to know that I was getting the most out of my gym sessions by working out within the right heart rate ranges, but wasn't too keen on chafing chest straps.
This watch seemed to fit the bill perfectly - sleek design suitable for everyday wear (I bought the men's version just because I preferred it over the women's grey), calorie counter, stopwatch and heart rate displayed on touching the metal case. Fantastic. Despite reading a negative review by another intermediate gym bunny, I decided to give the Sportline 915 the benefit of the doubt and fork out slightly more than I would've paid for a watch and chest strap combo.
Not a good move; standing still, it takes several seconds and several attempts for your heart rate to be displayed, if at all. Forget about trying to make it appear when the watch is sweaty and jiggling all over the place while running. In the meantime, your heart rate's dropped, thereby defeating the whole point of checking in the first place. The calorie counter's tied in to the heart rate monitor, so if you can't check your pulse then the calories burned reading will be off too.
To sum up, this is a good-looking watch and useful if you're casually wondering what your resting heart rate is, or just want to use it for its other features. But if you're serious about your training or fitness goals, I'd suggest giving the chest straps another look.
