Customer reviews and ratings

Philips AQ1001/05 Cassette Player - Black. 3.8 5 52 53
EASY TO USE Purchased for an elderly relative, who found it very easy to use, which was the most important feature. Good, straightforward design and easy to keep clean. Adequate sound quality. 31 March 2015
Avoid: Not fit for purpose I inserted a ZX Spectrum computer tape and pressed play. I immediately heard the tape's speed was being erratic as the tape slowed down and sped up periodically as the tape spool rotated. It would seem that the drive motor was struggling. Rewind was also poor and sometimes cut-out. The same tape worked well in a Sony Radio Cassette CD player so the Philips Cassette Player was at fault. I returned the Philips Cassette Player to Argos for a refund. 27 March 2015
Philip's cassette recorder Very poor in all aspect's. poor in recording. not very good in playback a waste of money. 17 March 2015
Excellent machine - with small issue Bought this for my 90 year old mother who has "talking books" from the library. This is light enough for her to move from room to room. Volume is more than adequate even for a lady with hearing problems. Only slight issue is that she has problems sometimes loading the tapes in - they slot into a carrier that is in the part that flips up and alignment is a little critical. I stuck some tactile markers on certain keys to make it easier for her to operate. 03 March 2015
Amazing top notch old timer! Absolutely great for all these favourite old cassette tapes! 18 February 2015

Can I record existing media onto a tape?

2 months, 1 week ago
Is there anyway to record onto a cassette, but not through the microphone, through an AUX line in or something?

Answer:
Hi,

I have checked the instructional manual for you and the Philips Cassette Player ? Black can record from an external microphone or an audio source connected through an AUX IN cable.

Thank you for using Question and Answer.

Does this have AUX / LINE IN inputs?

4 months, 4 weeks ago
Hi, I'm looking for a cassette recorder / player which has AUX IN or LINE IN inputs - i.e. from a standard 3.5m jack input method.

I want to make some mixtapes as I am a musician and wish to create cassette only releases of my new recordings.

We're to reliant on digital / MP3 systems i want to go back to cassettes.

if I got an audio lead and connected it to the earphones output of the cassette player, and the other end in the computer mic socket, and used suitable software, surely you can transfer recordings to computer this way? Does Argos supply such a lead? - II would guess that transfer to computer is probably the main reason for buying this cassette player.

Answer:
I use this cassette recorder to transfer data to and from retro computers (ZX Spectrum, Acorn Electron, etc.) just like back in the 1980's.
These computers come with the necessary cassette leads but if you are transferring to a PC, remember that this unit is mono and will need mono jack plugs on the lead at the cassette recorder end.

Answer:
Despite the other answer of course you can connect the earphone to the computer MIC socket using a male-to-male 2.5mm jack.
They can be obtained at your local branch of a suitable electrical store.
On the PC use Windows Recorder or any one of a number of third party applications.

Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry to say that the Philips AQ1001 Cassette Player does not have compatibility with a PC system. It is purely a cassette recorder and player.

Hope this helps, thanks for using Argos Q&A
