Good Price and Good Company
I bought this a few weeks ago, when my last one failed. Kidde appears a good name in this area, and the internet suggested this was a particularly good model (for the price). Obviously, I won't know if it works correctly, unless we get a Carbon Monoxide leak!

Is it working?
We bought this because we have an open fire and have recently had more double glazing fitted so we’re concerned about our CO. Since we have had it it hasn’t shown any ppm and I’m doubtful that it is actually working as I previously worked in a school where the CO levels were monitored and they were always quite high! I’m not sure how to check that it’s working. I have held it in the fireplace but it still reads zero…..

Hope we never know whether it *really* works!
Easy to use, but obviously you've no idea how well it is really working unless something goes wrong. There are cheaper ones out there, but Kidde is a decent brand, and I prefer a readout so I can see any build up to an alarm.

Easy to set up, good digital display.
Wanted an extra Carbon Monoxide monitor downstairs. Liked the fact it has a digital read out. The alarm is quite loud on testing , so hopefully, should it ever go off it will alert me to the problem. You have to replace the batteries every 1-2 years but that’s not a problem.

How the alarm works
The alarm starts working once it has been activated and tested.
If carbon monoxide (CO) is detected, it will sound a loud alarm.
Higher levels of CO will make the alarm sound faster.
When the alarm should sound
At 50 ppm CO: alarm sounds in 60–90 minutes
At 100 ppm CO: alarm sounds in 10–40 minutes
At 300 ppm CO: alarm sounds in less than 3 minutes
How to test the alarm
Test it once a week
Also test it after coming back from a holiday or time away
Press and release the test button quickly
A beep confirms the test has started
If the alarm does not sound properly, it should be replaced
Safety while testing
The alarm is very loud
Stand about 1 metre away when testing
Or use ear protection
Bump test mode
This is a special test mode for checking the alarm with aerosol CO
Hold the test button for 10 seconds to start it
The unit chirps 3 times
The green LED flashes once per second
The alarm sounds if CO is above 40 ppm
It exits test mode automatically after 2 minutes
You can stop the test early by pressing the test button
Important caution
The bump test should only be done with clean, dry CO test gas
It should only be carried out by a trained service engineer
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hi Jane.
Kidde Digital Readout Carbon Monoxide Alarm:
Having checked the instructions. Pressing the test/reset button will terminate the alarm. If the CO condition that caused the alert in the first place continues, the alarm will reactivate. If the unit alarms again within six minutes, it is sensing high levels of CO which can quickly become a dangerous situation. The cause of the CO would either need to be rectified or the alarm removed away from the area, to stop it sounding.
Thank you for using Q&A.
According to CO2meter.com, 9 ppm is the maximum indoor safe carbon monoxide level over 8 hours, so registering at 11 seems a bit late ?

"The digital display shows readings between 11-999." So, no it does not show a reading of 1ppm.

Hi Swampye,
The alarm will start to beep when the batteries need replacing.
Thank you for contacting Q & A
Without reading the manual, can’t be sure but first port of call would be to change the battery. If it doesn’t work it may be at the end of its life or a fault. If in doubt, look on their website that might have more info on that model if you no longer have the instructions.
Hi,
I can confirm all of our items, and the warranties, are suitable for domestic use only.
I hope this helps
Thanks for using Q&A
Hi,
These should not be installed in bathrooms as condensation can penetrate the alarm, cause false alarms and also cause it to not work.
I hope this helps
Thanks for using Argos Q&A
Hello. I don’t think it is usually advisable to place a carbon monoxide alarm in humid environments where there is condensation like bathrooms and kitchens. So, in my opinion I would say no.
