Sewing machines have improved in the last 50 years It is nearly 50 years since I had a new sewing machine so I expected things to have moved on. I needed the instructions to get started but once I'd mastered the basics it was very straight forward. Light enough for me to move easily and very easy to use. 05 June 2013

This machine is a great piece of kit. I chose this singer to replace a brother x5 sewing machine. I would recommend this singer. This is good with sewing or mending tough jeans. The down side is pushing down the reverse level is not that great. Level is a bit not that smoothed when pushed down like the one I returned which is why I gave it four stars plus threading needle is sometime not easy because needle eye too small but you can always put in another needle of your choice. However, it does work and looks sturdy and I prefer it because it is better then the returned one by far. 05 June 2013

Inspired buy I was inspired to learn to sew after watching a sewing programm on TV.. From previous review I had read I settled on this Singer sewing machine. I was very aprehensive as learning to sew in my late fifties. I need not have worried. Despite very little knowledge I made two items from the book which accompanied the TV series in the first 48 hours. This machine is simple to set up for a beginner, easy to thread up and load the bobbin, light to pick up, and as far as I can tell will do everything I need. The light on it is very helpful too. I agree with other buyers the cover is of very poor quality but that is the only fault I can find. I would recommend this machine 15 May 2013
