"I'm a man and a complete sewing machine novice but had so many jobs that needed doing I decided to have a go myself and save some money. So far I've hemmed 2 pairs of curtains, made a new cushion cover for the sofa with upholstery fabric and altered a shirt. 3 very different fabrics and no problems whatsoever. I've had no issues with getting the tension right that is mentioned in reviews of some other machines. I was worried that plastic-bodied machines might be flimsy compared with the old heavy thing that my mother used to use - and yes the machine can move around a bit if you're not careful but it's a lot better than I expected. The foot pedal also works very well and gives you fine control over the speed. Maybe this "jeans" model is a bit more sturdy than some but the only special thing that came with it is a piece of plastic that you put under the foot to hold the multiple layers of fabric flat. A good performer at a great price."

"This machine is really good. It can cope with almost anything I have thrown at it so far. It is really heavy but have been informed by my sewing teacher that this is in fact a plus and that those with lighter machines should put curtain weights on them to weigh them down. So far have found no negative points."
