LEGO® Star Wars Red Five X-Wing Starfighter - 10240. 4.4 5 47 47
Great collection piece This UCS X-Wing red five is truly a looker. Great details, great mecanism for the s-foils, accurate hatch underneath for the survival gear. Overall a great coffee table decoration. However, it has been said many times: stickers. I don't want stickers on a collectable, and this thing has plenty... The worst is the cockpit. The 79$ X-Wing has a printed cockpit, why couldn't this one have a printed too? It also is a unique piece, not found anywhere else! This should have been THE focal point! You look through the cockpit and see the interior with its amazing detail and have the frame clearly outlined. Nah, what you see is a transparent piece with "transparent" stickers that line up so-so (I'm really dedicated when it comes to stickers lining up), bubble up, fuzz up the transparency of the cockpit and just generally look not so great. It's a unique part, only for this model... it should have been a pride point of having it printed to look awesome. My other gripe is the flimsy assembly for the engines onto the wings. Compromises must be made to get a decent price for these toys, but this could have been better. The ratio for the s-foils gears could also have been a bit quicker, but the opening and closing is smooth enough so this is not too big an issue. Otherwise this is a great build, quite happy to have this in the collection! If however, somewhere in the future a printed cockpit is released (this won't happen, but still... a guy can dream) for this set as an "upgrade", I want one for sure! 03 August 2014
Almost perfect X-Wing This was my first UCS Star Wars build, and I loved every second of it! The overall design is near perfect and a lot closer to the movie than the older UCS X-Wing. I particularly liked the S-Foils (wings!) mechanism for opening and closing them. It adds a nice touch and is solid and well designed. The level of detail is great. Two points, one is that the designer even added the torpedo launch tubes, and the other is just the detail around the back end and engines. The build was not particularity difficult and I was impressed with the instruction book. I didn't have any moments where the pictures were unclear. I have marked the model a 4 out of 5 for the following three reasons: Stickers! I really don't like stickers on models like this. For the price I would expect all pieces to be printed, especially the cockpit. The stand. it's a bit wobbly, and would have been nicer if it had some settings to lock it at different positions. No Luke Skywalker Minifig! Overall I highly recommend this model. It's a fun build and the end model is stunning. 22 May 2014
Good model Excellent lego model building to a large display , lost of work building 21 May 2014
X-Wing set The Red 5 Lego X-Wing is an excellent set, with over 1,500 pieces it's not a quick build but once constructed it is solid and looks great on the stand. The stickers on the cockpit window are tricky and best handled by an adult. One of the best Star Wars Lego sets you can currently buy :) 13 April 2014
Perfection I haven't been able to purchase a "model" (as in "don't play with it!") set in quite a while but, i knew this and the super star destroyer would be the next ones id own. (side note super star destroyer is amazing on display and worth the money but a very monotonous build. Its a giant triangle) This new UCS X-wing is a very well thought out design. I enjoy when designers add details that you can't even see once built (i.e. foot pedals in the cockpit) the torpedo launchers are a great touch I'm glad to see added. And even the slight tapering inward of the front nose ever so slightly with the use of hinge pieces really adds to the dimensional look of the model. My favorite detail is the "T" pieces in the engine intakes, very accurate addition. The mechanics of the wings are simple, elegant and ingenious. The size is a perfect ratio for modeling. Some advising remarks: Because of the size the wings are a little "flappy". They aren't delicate or not sturdy, they just sway more then a "play-able" should be. Like i said, this is a Model and there is not playing involved with this build. only admiring. In addition you should be very confident in your ability to place decals absolutely perfectly. The cockpit visor has decals for the frame and are quite chanllanging to place. Just follow the instructions on the technique and there should be no problems. Don't pull back to adjust or you will have to pull out the extra decals and start over, also have a card or some sort of edge ready to smooth out the decal and push air pockets out. I don't advise anyone who is not a perfectionist to put these decals on. Any mess-up will be very visible. My one negative remark about this model (and I've learned to live with it) is the R2-D2. I do not understand why LEGO invested their staff to build an amazing X-wing model for their UCS set, which are usually not built to mini figure scale and then include and incorporate a minfigure scaled R2-D2. it is only off scale by a small amount and does look nice mounted in its port behind the cock pit but it would have been nice to see some consistency when it came to the droid or not have a droid at all. In the end. There are infinitely more positives than negatives about this model and I recommend anyone who collects UCS models to snatch this one up. Its a fairly quick build so i suggest savoring it. It also looks amazing on nice shelf for everyone to look at..... Parents please don't get this for your kids to play with! They are to expensive and to nice to be a toy and were not meant to be a toy. I LOVE THIS MODEL 09 February 2014
