A good product but some shortcomings in the Instruction Manual. The full capability of the product has only been determined by trial and error. Illustrations could be clearer. 17 August 2015
Excellent Buy This product has helpful features ie it indicates which recording you are watching & goes straight to it. With our last machine we spent ages scrolling up & down looking for things. My TV has no scart socket so what type of cabling set up is required to achieve the recording aspect?
Is it as simple as aerial in HDMI out or is there something I'm missing here?

Hi, can the ethernet port be used for networking? I.e. if I have a programme saved on my laptop and it is connected to my WiFi and the laptop folder is 'shared', can I access my programme on the laptop via the Ethernet connection from the STB to the router?

(I know that an alternative to this would be to copy the file from the laptop to a 'pen drive' and plug it into the front. I'm just lazy...)

Answer:
Hello Oscar, Thank you for your question, Unfortunalty you will need to copy the files to a 'pen drive' as the ethernet port on the Hitachi HDR5T01 500GB Freeview+ HD Smart Digital TV Recorder is used for accessing the internet only and cannot be used for networking. Thank you for using Argos Q and A.
