Motion enhancement
Picture motion has caused problems with some technologies in the past, but now advances have been made that allow new TVs to cope much better with fast moving images.
Motion enhancement generally adds in additional frames by using complicated motion detection and frame generation.
- 100Hz, 200Hz and 600Hz technology is available across many TVs which smoothes the picture and reduces the judder and blur often found in older models - perfect if you watch lots of sports or fast action movies.
- The technology varies between brands, but the results are very similar.
- The technology may be complicated but the benefits are clear to see.
Connectivity
Modern TVs come with plenty of connections and sockets to support additional devices and peripherals. The two key connections to look for are SCART and HDMI.
- SCART is generally used for standard DVD players and recorders, and set-top box recorders.
- Devices that commonly use HDMI include Blu-ray players, some games consoles, HD set - top boxes and also peripheral items like digital cameras and camcorders.

- It enables you to connect multiple devices to your TV using just one connection.
- You don't have to get behind the TV to manually change the wires.
What's the right size of TV for you?
Once you have your shiny new TV, you'll want to get the most from the available technology. Here are some examples of how you can fully enjoy the benefits of High Definition capability.
To find out how much space a TV will take up, it's always worth checking the actual dimensions of the TV rather than relying on just the screen size.
- Ideally, for the best experience you should sit 1.5x the screen size away from the TV. So for a 32 inch TV, you would ideally sit 4ft away and for a 42 inch TV the distance would be 5ft.
- A TV screen size is measured diagonally from corner to corner - it's not a measurement of height or width.
Displaying your new TV
