High Definition TV
HD Ready and Full HD 1080p
All our TVs are HD Ready, in fact they're all ready to watch high definition channels, such as BBC One HD or ITV1 HD, once connected to a freesat HD, Sky HD or Freeview HD box.
- High definition TV produces crisp, clear and vibrant images enhancing your viewing experience. The greater the amount of pixels, the higher the picture detail will be.
- Many TVs are now Full HD 1080p, which is the highest resolution available, giving the ultimate detail and experience from Blu-ray players and games consoles, such as the PS3 and Xbox.
How does HD Ready and Full HD 1080p work?
- HD Ready essentially means the screen can show a high definition picture, which is 720 pixels tall.
- A Full HD 1080p TV has the highest resolution and currently the best definition available. The picture is 1080 pixels tall.
- Presently the only way to watch a true Full HD 1080 picture is by using a Blu-ray player or a games console such as a PS3 console.
It is worth noting that all HD equipment, whether it's a TV, Blu-ray or games console, uses HDMI connections and cables to transmit the huge amounts of data required for High Definition.
Getting the most from new technology.
Once you have your shiny new TV, you'll want to get the most from the available technology. Here are some examples of how you can fully enjoy the benefits of High Definition capability.
Freeview HD
Freeview HD enables you to enjoy High Definition channels through your normal TV aerial.
How does it work?
- Simply buy a Freeview HD box.
- Plug it into your HD ready TV and enjoy channels such as BBC1 HD and ITV HD in stunning High Definition with nothing more to pay*.
- Many TVs now come with Freeview HD built-in, so you won't need an extra box under the TV. Just look for the Freeview HD logo across our range of TVs.
*Freeview HD is subject to coverage and is being rolled out across the UK as part of the digital switchover. Check your coverage at www.digitaluk.co.uk (Argos.co.uk is not responsible for the content of external websites). An aerial upgrade may be required dependant on the condition of the current aerial.
Freesat HD
Freesat HD enables you to watch High Definition channels through a satellite dish.
How does it work?
- There is an initial one off payment for the box and satellite dish if you need one.
- Once your dish is installed and the box set up - you can enjoy free HD channels on your HD Ready TV.
Blu-ray
If you decide to buy a Full HD 1080p TV, then the best way to enjoy the technology is by using a Blu-ray player .
- The Blu-ray is perfectly matched to deliver stunning picture quality utilising the full resolution of the 1080 TV.
- You can still watch your existing DVD collection on your Blu-ray player and they'll look better than ever, as the player will up-scale them to near HD quality.
- You will need a HDMI cable to connect your Blu-ray player to your TV.
