We sell a large range of great value Cookware and cookware sets in a variety of different materials to suit all tastes and budgets. This guide explains the various materials included in our kitchen cookware range and what they are best suited for.
Material type: Aluminium |
Aluminium pots and pans are lightweight and easy to lift. Aluminium is an excellent conductor of heat, which reduces the risk of heat spots. |
Material type: Carbon steel |
Carbon steel saucepans heat and cool quickly and evenly. They’re a cheaper alternative to aluminium, and not generally as robust. |
Material type: Cast iron cookware |
Cast iron cookware is thick and heavy and retains and distributes heat well. It provides an even and consistent temperature, great for cooking soups and stews. Most cast iron saucepans have an enamel or non-stick interior and are easy to clean and maintain. Cast iron cookware is very versatile. You can use it on all types of hobs and in the oven. |
Material type: Hard anodised |
Hard anodising is a high-tech finish to aluminium. The process makes the metal twice as hard as stainless steel, but also provides the benefit of being an excellent conductor of heat, providing good heat distribution. It’s rust-resistant and doesn’t peel or blister, making it extremely hygienic. The anodising process also gives the easy release and easy clean benefits of non-stick. All types of utensils, even metal, can be used with hard-anodised pans. |
Material type: Stainless steel |
Stainless steel cookware is resistant to rust and general corrosion. It’s an extremely hard metal, which resists scratches and dents. This, combined with its smooth surface, ensures no cracks or scratches that could harbour dirt or bacteria. Stainless steel is not an effective conductor of heat, so pan bases are generally made of aluminium or copper, giving better heat conductivity to aid cooking. All types of utensils, even metal, are suitable for use with stainless steel pans. |
Dishwasher, microwave, & freezer compatibility |
Some materials are more dishwasher, microwave and freezer friendly than others. The product details will advise you on the individual product’s compatibility. |
Hob suitability |
Different materials are compatible with different types of hobs, gas, ceramic, electric, halogen, induction, and solid hotplates. The product detail for each individual product will signify which type of hobs it is compatible with. If you have a ceramic hob, it’s recommended you refer to the instructions and recommendations of the manufacturer before you purchase your cookware. |
Non-stick cookware |
A non-stick coating makes bakeware and pans easy to use and to clean. Wooden, silicone or nylon utensils are recommended to avoid scratching and damaging the coating. |
Accessories & storage |
Some cookware materials require special utensils in order to avoid scratching or damaging the surface. All details of the recommended utensils can be found in the product details. We offer a fantastic range of kitchenware accessories to suit all the cookware in our range. Also, check out our great range of pot stands and hanging racks for easy storage of your new cookware. |
