Choosing the right mattress
It’s easy to find the right mattress when you know what you’re looking for. The first step is to decide which type of mattress is right for you.
- Latex mattresses - made from natural rubber that quickly recovers its shape. It’s also naturally hypoallergenic, so latex mattresses are ideal if you suffer from allergies or asthma
- Memory foam mattresses - made from a clever material that moulds perfectly to your body, relieving pressure points and helping prevent restlessness.
- Sprung mattresses - popular kind of mattress, with traditional metal springs inside offering comfortable, effective support. Various types of sprung mattress are available – in general the more springs they contain, the firmer the support
Sprung mattresses
Sprung mattresses also come in a few different types.
- Open coil - fantastic all round spring system, an ideal mattress for adults or children
- Continuous spring - lump free, and gives you a smooth, responsive feel
- Zoned mattresses - offer more support where your body needs it most – in the middle of the bed
- Pocket sprung - contain individual springs, held in place in fabric pockets, for an extremely comfortable and supportive mattress. Ideal if there is a big difference in body weight and size between you and your partner.
Comfort and support
To help you choose the mattress that’s most comfortable for you, we label all our mattresses as medium, medium/firm or firm. Another important thing to consider is the finish of the mattress:
- Micro quilting mattresses feature a quilted surface for extra comfort
- Deep quilting mattresses offer an even more comfortable night’s sleep thanks to deeper layers of quilting
- Cushion top mattresses have an extra layer of padded fibres woven into the top of the mattress, for a sumptuously soft feel
- Pillow top mattresses have padded fibres on the top of the mattress, for the ultimate in luxurious softness
- Tufted mattresses feel firmer, thanks to tufting from the top through to the bottom of the mattress that holds all the fibres in place
