Choosing the right mattress

Mattress type

It's easy to find the right mattress when you know what you're looking for. The first step is to decide which type of mattress is right for you.

  • Foam Mattresses

Constructed using a layer of memory foam or latex and PU foam. These mould perfectly to your body, relieving pressure points and helping to prevent restlessness.

  • Sprung Mattresses

These have traditional metal springs that give comfortable, effective support. Generally, the more springs they contain the firmer the support.

Sprung mattresses also come in a few different types.

  • Open coil

fantastic all round great value spring system, an ideal mattress for adults or children

  • Continuous spring

Gives a smooth, responsive feel with no roll-together properties.

  • Zoned mattresses

offers support where your body needs it most - in the middle of the bed.

  • Pocket sprung

Has individual springs, held in place in fabric, preventing roll-together. A comfortable, supportive and durable mattress.

Mattress finishes

The top layer, between you and the springs, significantly affects how the bed feels to sleep on.

Your quick reference guide to mattress finishes

Micro quilting

Have layers of fibres with a stitched patterned surface for comfort.

Deep quilting

Offers deeper layers of quilting for increased comfort.

Cushiontop

Have an integrated layer of padded fibres for sumptuous cushioning and comfort.

Pillowtop

Offer an additional layer of padded fibres attached to the top of the mattress, for the ultimate in luxurious softness.

Tufted

Offers a firmer feel by tufting form the top through to the bottom layers of the mattress, to hold all the fibres in place.

Memory foam

Is heat sensitive and can be added to the top layer of a sprung unit for additional support.

Latex Responds to movement, so can help prevent a restless night's sleep and can be added to the top layer of a sprung unit for additional support.

Comfort and firmness

Choosing a mattress with the right level of comfort and support will ensure you get the best possible night's sleep. The ideal mattress should mould to your body while remaining supportive.

We label many of our mattresses with a "z" rating which:

  • Provide a guide to the level of comfort you can expect based on the amount of fillings inside the mattresses.
  • The "z" rating is from 1 - 5 with 5 being the most comfortable.

As a general rule, the heavier you are, the firmer the mattress you will need. To help you choose, we label all our mattresses as medium, medium/firm, firm or extra firm.

Anti-allergy

Many of our mattresses have a treated cover which helps to provide lasting protection against house dust mites, fungus and allergies.

No-turn

A no-turn mattress does not need to be taken off the bed and turned upside down. It simply needs to be rotated from top to bottom, without having to remove it completely from the bed.
