If you are looking for handheld entertainment while on the move the smaller, sleeker version of the original Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DS Lite will definitely fit the bill. It combines dual screen action with Touch Screen interaction, providing you with a unique gaming experience. Wireless communication technology allows you to join friends in multiplayer games, or use the system's PictoChat software to send messages and drawings.
Dual screens
The two super-sharp LCD screens on the Nintendo DS Lite offer a completely new approach to gaming. Each 3-inch screen is capable of producing true 3D graphics - one screen can be used to show the main action, while the other may be used to display static information or maps. The clever thing is that both screens can combine to offer a larger playing area.
Touch screen
Unlike any other handheld console the Nintendo DS Lite utilises touch screen technology on the lower screen. Using the supplied stylus you can write, draw, select and control games simply by touching or drawing on the screen.
Nintendo DS Controls
As well as the touch screen the Nintendo DS Lite uses a control pad and eight action buttons. This means you can control games in the way that you are most comfortable with.
Microphone
The built-in microphone allows you to interact with the console simply by speaking to it. Voice control features in many games, but you can also use the feature to communicate with friends using the Nintendo WiFi connection.
Stereo sound
The built-in stereo speakers within the Nintendo DS provide a great sound experience. For private play a headphone socket lets you enjoy sound without disturbing others.
Wireless network
The Nintendo DS Lite's wireless communication technology allows up to 16 consoles to connect on a local wireless network, letting you play with up to 15 friends. The distance within which you can connect with other users ranges from between 30 and 100 feet.
Some games require each player to own a copy of a game in order to join in a multiplayer session (i.e. Multi-Card Play), however there are many titles that support Single-Card Play. This means that only one player actually needs a copy of the game, with up to 15 others (depending on the software) able to use the Download Play feature of their Nintendo DS Lite to participate in the game, or even download a demo version of the title.
Backwards compatability
The Nintendo DS Lite features two ports, one for DS Game Cards and one for Game Boy Advance Game Paks. The DS Lite is compatible with the GBA's entire back catalogue of games, giving the system access to hundreds of titles
(playable in single player mode only).
Nintendo's 'Touch! Generations' range is a collection of software for the Wii console and the Nintendo DS handheld system that offers a variety of unique ways to play. By keeping the controls simple, Touch! Generations titles open up a world of video game experiences that anyone can enjoy - train your brain, play sudoku, become a doctor, make music or connect with people thousands of miles away. They can be enjoyed on those quiet moments for yourself, or together with the whole family.
