- This involves directing a fast ground attack aircraft and attack helicopters towards a target, from a forward position on the battlefield.
- They use a combination of Satcom and Radios to talk to the aircraft and use Laser Designator Units which are portable devices carried by Forward Air Controllers (FAC), for the purpose of making targets for friendly air assets.
- These LDU's consist of an optical sight, coded laser emitter and range finder.
