What size do I need?

Tent descriptions will tell you how many people the tent is for. The 'berth' of a tent doesn't include luggage, so 2-man means two people, not two people, their suitcases, and their dog. Size up to make sure you'll fit everything in comfortably.

How to prepare for a pitch-perfect tent set-up

Set-up at home before your trip

Don't find out you're missing a bit when you're in the middle of a field. Unbox and set up at home before the trip so you can check all the pieces are there, and that the instructions are easy to follow.

Check it's waterproof

Once your tent is up in the garden leave out for a few days and, if it's not raining, use a hose or watering can to create a fake shower over your tent. Then get inside and run your hand over any seams to check for leaks.

Avoid condensation

Feeling a bit damp? You may think you have a faulty tent but the water is more likely to be condensation. To avoid this, keep vents and doors open when possible, store wet boots and clothes outside, and try not to touch the tent sides.

Top Tip:

Expect your airbed to deflate slightly overnight – if it were airtight it would burst as soon as you stepped on it! Simply top-up with air and try to use it just for sleeping, and not as a sofa, to prevent excess air-loss.
