Excellent Choice

I bought this for my elderly uncle after returning a faulty cheaper big button phone. This one is great and well worth the extra cost. It has all the necessary requirements for partially sighted and the hard of hearing amongst us. It is well built and I especially like the fact that it has three dedicated push buttons for the most important numbers, which is in addition to other memory numbers you wish to store. Overall, very well designed and facilitates all the usual benefits of a conventional phone.

Second one we've bought

Old mum can barely see. We've had one of these in the living room for a long time. Easy to use. Now installed a second telephone in the bedroom to facilitate those hopefully rare emergency calls where she can just hit any button and is near guaranteed to reach one of the family. Puts our minds at ease. Not too difficult to programme the preset numbers.

Great potential but, falls at first hurdle

I bought this phone for my 84yr old father in law. Looked and sounded ideal - big numbers hearing aid friendly, adjustable volume and easy to use. However Ringer didn't work. I tried every button position for the volume and tone but nothing worked. Returned it to Argos for a replacemetnt but same problem. Took it back again and yet the same problem. The BT big button 200 nice idea bad buy

What are the batteries for?

I have this phone and it works ok without batteries. Please don't say it's in case of a power cut, as all phones take their power from the telephone socket.

The hands-free option doesn't work if the batteries are removed.

I could be wrong but it doesn't seem to use the batteries for amplification, only for the control circuitry.

I have investigated this for you and cannot offer any explanation as to why the BT Big Button 200 Corded Telephone requires batteries. The only possible reason I can consider is that the "LOUD" function and speaker phone may require extra power to work properly.

Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

does it have a visual display

sorry probably a dumb question but looking at photos of the BT Big Button 200 corded telephone its not clear if it has a visual display, useful for showing all those long numbers whilst dialling them!

Hello, thank you for your question regarding the BT Big Button 200 Corded Telephone.

Having checked the user manual, I can confirm that this item requires 4xAA batteries, which are pre-installed in the phone. In order to activate the batteries you are required to pull the plastic tab from the underside of the phone.
