Is this light bar able to take energy efficient bulbs as well as those supplied?

I am looking at using LED bulbs, to reduce the power usage.

I had this fitted by an electrician, and changed the 4 ligthbulbs to colour changing 4W LED bulbs after the electrician left. All the lightbulbs just flickered on and off repeatedly. I rang the supplier of the lightbulbs (Auraglow) , who told me that in all likelihood there was a minimum wattage on the lightbar itself, and that the lightbar is therefore NOT suitable for LED bulbs. I have circumvented the problem by fitting one regular 40W halogen bulb, and 3x 4W lightbulbs, which means they all stay on steady now without clicking on and off, on and off, but it is an annoyance and if the bar is not suitable for low wattage LED's then this should be made much clearer in the Argos description if there is a MINIMUM wattage. My electrician is coming back in a couple of weeks for more work, and I will see if he can do anything to it so it will take all LEDs. If you are buying this and plan to use LED's, get your electrician to verify it is suitable BEFORE fitting it. Sadly I threw away the packaging on the day it was fitted so can't refer back to it. I believe the Argos answer is incorrect and that it is not suitable for low wattage LEDs, from my own experience.

Hi there,

I have since looked into this and can confirm that this product includes 4pcs Halogen GU10 bulbs. You are able to use any wattage or brand of the GU10 bulbs - if you were looking for energy efficient bulbs.

I hope this helps and thanks for using Argos Q&A.

Can you use GU10 Led 6W bulbs in these?

Instead of the halogen ones, can I use GU10 Led 6W bulbs, obviously more efficient than halogens? Thanks

Can it be installed in the bathroom

1 Answer

Hi, thank you for your question.

Having looked into your query, I can confirm that the Asber Collection - Silver Finish 4 Light Wave Ceiling Bar is suitable for use within a bathroom.

However, the place it can be positioned is in zone 3 of the bathroom lighting zones.
Please use the following information in assisting you with clarifying where zone 3 is in your bathroom.

Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower itself. Any fitting used in this zone must be low voltage, (max 12V) and be rated at least IP67 which is total immersion proof. (We do not currently have any fittings that are suitable for Zone 0)

Zone 2 is an area stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor. In this zone an IP rating of at least IP44 is required. In addition it is good practice to consider the area around a wash basin, within a 60cm radius of any tap to be considered as zone 2.

Zone 3 is anywhere outside zones 0, 1, and 2 (subject to specific limits) and where no water jet is likely to be used. No IP rating is required. In addition to the above, if there is a likelihood of water jets being used for cleaning purposes in zones 1, 2 and 3, a fitting rated a minimum IP65 must be used.

Thank you for using Q & A.
