Is an oil radiator more economical than an electric fan heater or halogen ?

1 Answer

Hi Danielle,

Thank you for your question.

I can confirm that the majority of oil-filled radiators are rated at less than 1 kWh, which makes them cheaper to operate than a fan heater on an hourly basis. However, in order to fully heat a room, oil-filled radiators have to be left on for longer. So the running costs of oil-filled radiators and fan heaters work out to be very similar.

Thanks for using Q&A.

what is the running cost per hour

1 Answer

Hi simpso,

This will depend on what tariff you're on. It's also impossible to know what the thermostat on/off time is as it will depend on the radiator thermostat setting and the room ambient temperature and cool down rate. Unfortunately there a too many variables.

If it did consume 2KW for 1 hour it would use 2KW/h, and you could look at how much you are paying per KW/h of electricity from your bill and multiply by 2.

I hope this helps!

frost protection

your website and catalogue state this heater has frost protection however the handbook says nothing about it does it have frost protection or not and if it does how do you set it?

For the Challenge 2kW Oil Filled Radiator apologies this does not have a frost protection this uses an over heat protection which is a similar feature. I have sent a correction request to our webteam.

I hope this helps and enjoy the rest of the day.
