Wanted a crockpot

Put my veg and meat in added water before I went to work and when I got home, voila oxtail stew was waiting for me. Wish I had got one sooner.

Cooks Too Quickly

Bought this to replace an old Murphy Richards which was falling apart. On first use discovered that on the High setting, food was overcooked when cooking for the recommended time. Even on low, this was the case also. Just cooked a joint of beef on the low setting for four hours instead of the recommended eight hours, and it was perfectly cooked right through. Agree with other reviewers who say they couldn't leave it on during a typical working day. We have done some wattage tests on the old slow cooker and the Crockpot, and surprisingly, the low setting on the Crockpot is higher than the high setting on the Morphy Richards. Crockpot. High 185 watts, Low 141 watts, Warm 30 watts Murphy Richards High 126 watts, Low 82 watts Attractive looking red colour goes well with the kitchen scheme, good build quality, includes warning light, quite pleased now that we have it under control!

How many hours max slow cook? Automatically goes to keep warm?

What is the maximum length of slow cook time? (Some say only 2hrs). Does it automatically switch off when cooked, or does it need to be switched off manually. Or does it have a keep warm function that it can switch to? If so, does this happen automatically? Also does it have a delayed start timer?

Hi there,

I can confirm that the maximum cook time is 10 hours. The "keep warm" setting is not automatic, it needs to be selected manually.

Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

i leave home at 6.30AM and come home at 6.15PM so mine is on for that long,.. it doesnt turn off, but will keep food hot for as long as you need it.. mine doesnt have a delayed timer.. But you could buy a seperate timer plug that you could set for delayed time... hope that helps.. Angep

Can you sear the meat first in the bowl, over the hob?

The removable Stoneware Cooking Pot (A) is ovenproof and microwave safe, but DO NOT use the
Stoneware Cooking Pot on a gas or electric hob or under a grill.

Also, the lid is NOT ovenproof or microwave safe.

Have a good day.

Is it insulated?

Does it have an energy rating, even if not a requirement, it would show the manufacturers have thought about energy efficiency.

The Crock-pot SCV400RD-060 3.5L Slow Cooker - Red Slow cookers don’t have an energy rating because the criteria has not been defined as to what Energy Efficiency means by the European Union for this type of product. However, slow cookers are designed to balance power consumption in order to obtain the best cooking performance over extended periods.
